Green Thumb Community Orchard

Owned by Portland Parks and Recreation, and co-operatively managed by Portland Community Gardens and the Portland Fruit Tree Project, the Green Thumb Community Orchard is a historic orchard here in SE Portland.

Currently, a group of new and returning Community Orchard Stewards hold monthly 'Work & Learn' Events which are free and open to the public. We additionally host a number of Service-learning events with local Universities and Community Agencies, such as Central City Concern, Portland State University, and Lewis & Clark University.

This orchard is one of our most productive (fruitfully speaking), where we are able to share in the harvest throughout the harvest season (July-Oct). Currently, the Green Thumb Community Orchard is home to over 60 fruit and nut trees, dozens of edible shrubs, as well as native plants for local pollinators. Last year alone, we harvested over 1,892 lbs of fruit from Green Thumb, donating over 1,035 lbs of fruit to local food pantry partners and health clinics for further distribution to local families in the area.

Please note that this orchard is within a gated area, shared with the Learning Gardens Lab, Brentwood community gardens, and the Master Gardener's demo gardens.
