Volunteer Leadership Opportunities

Looking for ways to get more involved, build leadership skills, or add to your resume? PFTP is looking for enthusiastic volunteers interested in helping lead things like harvests (including bike harvests!), work parties, and outreach tabling events. Let us know what you’re interested in by filling out this form or reaching out to Owen at owen@portlandfruit.org.

Volunteer by Indexing Fruit Trees

This is a great volunteer role for people who like data, like to talk to people, and want to be a part of a community science project. Learn more here.

Volunteer at Outreach Events

We are always in need of people to represent PFTP at tabling events throughout Portland! Check the events calendar to see where we’re at next and to sign up!

Volunteer at Community Orchards

Our partner Community Orchards each host regular work parties where volunteers are always welcome! Activities include pruning, mulching, weeding, and irrigation maintenance - bring a water bottle and closed-toe shoes, and the amazing volunteer leaders will show you what to do! Find dates and sign up at the events calendar.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in volunteering in other capacities? Fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch! We are excited to engage your help in things like marketing/social media, video creation, storytelling, project management, graphic design, data management, volunteer coordination, or more! We’re excited to help you find the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

We are also very open to internship opportunities. Just let us know what you’re interested in and we can talk options.

Internships and Professional Development

We love being a place for people to experiment with their professional development as it relates to our mission. Internships are tailored to each person interested in working with us after a brief one-on-one meeting to learn about goals, time commitment, and work style. If it feels like a good fit on both sides, we identify a project that meets your goals and ours. These opportunities are open to students, graduates, or others interested in talking. We are happy to do the work required if you are looking to get school credit, but it’s not necessary to be connected to a school.

Because everyone has a life outside of their time with us, most roles work remotely, length of commitment varies based on person and project, and weekly time commitment tends to range from 2-10hrs per week.

Following successful project completion, we are happy to write recommendations, be an ongoing reference, connect you with people that might be good career connections, give resume/cover letter recommendations, etc. as is helpful.

Business & Group Volunteering

Business & Group Volunteering

Business Partner Harvests are tailored for for-profit business groups that want to provide a valuable volunteer service to the community, engage in a meaningful group activity, and support the unique work of the Portland Fruit Tree Project. We ask for a donation of between $500 and $2k, or an in-kind trade, for organizing a specific outing for your business.

***If you are a nonprofit/school/etc. without a budget for this and are interested in volunteering as a group, you’re still very welcome!

Here’s how it works:

  • Send us the parameters for your event - how many people are we thinking, is there a date you have in mind, and do you have any specific goals? We work with you to find a time and location that works well for your group. Daytime and weekday events are preferred, but we will do our best to accommodate your group. Events are typically two hours, since more than that people tire out!

  • PFTP Staff will lead the group and coordinates all of the site logistics and equipment - all you do is show up and have fun!

    • Event types include: community orchard work parties, harvests (hardest to coordinate for a lot of reasons), canning/preserving (smaller groups)

  • Partner groups are asked to provide a financial contribution to help cover the cost of the event, and to support Portland Fruit Tree Project. We ask for this donation on a sliding scale basis to accommodate for organizations of varying budgets, within the following guidelines (nonprofits/schools/etc. no contribution is required, but feel free if you have the budget!):

    • 1-15 attendees: $500-$750

    • 16-30 attendees: $750-$1000

    • 31+ attendees: $1000-$2000
